The good, the bad and the YUCK

I have really started reading blogs that have lots of recipes on them. I am having a heck of a time coming up with dinner ideas. My brain does not work at this point, so I need lots of help. I decided that this week, I would try a couple new recipes. The first one was WONDERFUL. It was a huge hit with everyone in the family, even tho it had lots of spinach in it. I got the usual, ewwwwww from Trent when he saw all the green, but I had him try a bite and, imagine that, it was really good. Mom might actually know what she is talking about!

The first recipe was Garlic and Spinach Chicken Pasta. It was soo good.

Here's the ingredients, follow the link for the directions.

6 Tbs. olive oil
6 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 box (1-lb) penne pasta
5-oz. fresh spinach, chopped
1 Tbs. dried basil (or 1/2 cup fresh)
6 Tbs. lemon juice
1 cup Parmesan cheese

Next time I will use a bit more chicken. It seemed a little uneven with all the noodles, possibly because I used whole wheat. I also used half the spinach because I wasn't sure how it was going to go over, but I will use the full amount next time. This meal was oh so yummy and garlic-y. YUM!

The second recipe, well lets just say I wasn't so lucky. I am not going to post the recipe because I refuse to bash someone elses stuff. I will say this, In our 5 years of marriage, and 6 years together, this is the first time we have ever opted for McDonald's over something I have cooked. I would say that is pretty good! :) I was kind of bummed that I wasted 2 lbs of chicken tho. Luckily IT'S ON SALE AT PRICE SHOPPER RIGHT NOW (just so you know! :)

Ants go marching.

On Friday, Alanna and the kids came over to play on the Slip n Slide. I sat on a towel under a tree. That is my usual spot, it's still hot, but not nearly as bad as the direct sun. I usually don't pay attention to my towel, but I think I will start. First, I saw an ant carrying a dead spider. Go ants!! Then there was a precious blue butterfly that apparently had a fascination with my flip-flop. I'm pretty sure he was drinking the water that was on there from when I got my feet wet in the hose. He stayed around us for a long time, and even ended up on my shoulder at one point. Have I mentioned how much I love butterflies???

THEN, Alanna apparently put her leg down on an ant, and killed it. It wasn't smushed, but it was obviously not alive. A second ant was doing everything he could to carry the dead ant off. He kept letting go and trying a different way, determined to get his friend over the little wrinkles of the towel. It felt very "no soldier left behind" to me. It almost made me a little teary watching how hard he was trying. He finally made it to the grass, with a little help from me and a blade of grass, with his injured brother.

OK, I realize there is a GREAT possibility that he was carrying him back to the others so they could eat him, but I like happy endings, so in my mind, they went back and had a proper funeral and burial for their fallen soldier. :)

35 Weeks

In 4 1/2 weeks (if not before) I will be holding my little baby girl! I am sooo ready! I keep looking at all of the clothes and try to picture her in them. I wonder what she will look like. I imagine her looking like Tommy, but I realize I could end up with a baby with darker hair and eyes. Either way, she will be beautiful! I really can't wait to see her. I'm kind of over the "I'm so sick of being pregnant" stage and am now in the "I can't wait to meet my daughter" stage.

Slipin' & Slidin'

We got Tommy a Toy Story Slip n Slide for his birthday. It was intended to be used that day at his party, but it rained. A lot. That's OK tho. I have been too tired {read: lazy} the past few days and haven't brought it out. Today, it was HOT, and I decided that it is doing no one any good just sitting in it's box, so when Hubby got home (because I am lazy umm I mean tired) I asked him to please set it up for them. They had a great time! Tommy slipped the first time he tried to run on it so he decided it would be better to run in the grass all the way down and then splash in the little pool at the end. Hey, whatever works. He had fun, that's all that matters.

I love this one!
